A workshop will be held on the 14 and 15 September at the Oceanário de Lisboa, under the Regular Process for the Global Reporting and Assessment of the Marine Environment, dedicated to the North Atlantic, the Mediterranean, the Baltic and the Black Sea regions. Organized by the United Nations Secretariat, the initiative has the support of the Portuguese Government and a partnership with Oceano Azul Foundation. The goal is to promote a debate that feeds the scientific work of elaborating the second “World Ocean Assessment”.

The first edition, published in January 2016, is based on the assessment of the state of the marine environment conducted by experts from around the world, over several years. The report includes socio-economic aspects in order to enhance knowledge about the ocean and to help ensuring that the decisions having an impact on the ocean and their resources are based on solid scientific elements.

This workshop, attended by about three dozen of national and international experts, aims to generate specialized knowledge about the North Atlantic, Mediterranean, Baltic and Black Sea regions, integrating it in the second “World Ocean Assessment”, to be completed by 2020.
