Blue Bio Value Acceleration aims to foster sustainable blue innovation that can contribute to a new development model capable of decoupling economic growth from the degradation of natural resources. The program’s promoters, Oceano Azul Foundation and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, firmly believe that blue biotechnology is a key answer to that challenge.
“Blue Bio Value Acceleration supports the development of startups using blue bio resources to create products or services with high economic value and positive environmental impact” – Filipa Saldanha, Deputy Director of the Gulbenkian Sustainable Development Programme.
This year, 17 startups from 10 countries were selected to take part in the program. Their innovative businesses range from ceramics produced with fish scales to hair-care with ingredients from the Ria Formosa.
“When selecting the 17 startups we asked ourselves the question, could this be the next solution we all need?… could this help solve one of the problems that our planet faces today?” – Ana Brazão, Blue Bio Value project manager on behalf of Oceano Azul Foundation
Blue Bio Value Acceleration congratulates this year’s winners: Blue Oasis Technology, Feedvax and Tekslo Seafood. Celebrations continue for all the other startups who participated in tackling today’s greatest societal challenges, by harnessing the power of the ocean.
Launched in 2018, the program has accelerated 59 startups from 19 different countries. For more information about Blue Bio Value visit: bluebiovalue.com
